ハンドメイドのボードは、まず自分が乗ることから始まりました。いくつもの国内外ブランドがひしめく30余年前の四国で３０３は新参者でした。「あの頃は、たったひとりだった」と公平さんは笑ってのけます。やがてサーフショップに集まるキッズたちが、ともに仕事を始めた仲間たちが、さらには海部キッズたちが「サーフィンを教えて」とシェイピングルームを訪れて、いつのまにか３０３の輪がひろがってゆきました。チャンピオンになった辻裕次郎をはじめ「サーフィンがんばれよ」とサーフボードを渡してきた若手チームは公平さんのヒーローたちであり、おそらく日本で一番サーフィンの上手いファクトリーチームが公平さんの自慢です。そして３０３を手にしてくれるサーファーの皆さんのおかげで、今自分が仕事とサーフィンを続けていられることを一日も忘れていません。

Kohei Chiba began by first riding his own hand-made surfboards. 30 some years ago, 303 was a newcomer amongst many domestic and foreign brands that have already existed in Shikoku. Kohei laughs at the memory and says that “at that time, I was all alone.” Not long after, the 303 circle started growing. Kids in Kaifu would gather at the shop and shape room, always saying “teach me how to surf” all the while Kohei’s friends started helping with operations. His heroes are the young team surfers, like champion Yujiro Tsuji, whom he has given boards to. He’s also proud of having the best surfing factory team in Japan. Kohei is grateful and hasn’t forgotten, even for a day, that he can continue to work and surf because of every surfer who puts their hands on a 303.
